WordPress is the Most Popular of the Three Major CMS Platforms

More interest means more plugins, more updates and functionality. The plugin interface is the best of the three major according to our lead coder. Drupal and Joomla are the other two platforms. WordPress is still missing native functionality for multiple editable regions on one page without the use of a beta plugin currently, so that is one feature we are eagerly anticipating, but other than that we don’t have any complaints at this point. The additional features gained from using WordPress over traditional XHtml is a huge list, and just about every website we design & code these days is in WordPress… now you know why!

Social Media Marketing Metrics & Analysis

Simply put, social media technology could be the most efficient way to reach the most people ever.

When it comes to marketing metrics, nothing beats the statistics that can be mined from website analytics – especially when they are set up right.

The three Social Media Marketing Metric tools that we find are the most useful at the moment are:

- Referring Traffic in Analytics (obviously)

- Conversions from lead forms filled out on landing pages utilized for social media

- Calls generated from social media

The call tracking utilized is actually a call tracking phone number on the website that changes if the visitor came from social media (or sponsored advertising, a tv/radio campaign or from an email blast). Another important metric is just simply the number of Facebook Likes, Tweets (mentions) and Google +1′s. SEO Moz’s Site Explorer can be a good place to view that information.

On top of that the number of social mentions and their bias can be important additionally. Get alerts for social mentions using Twilert or Google Alerts.

A client whose website is in development recently asked:

What is more important the photos or the content? Why?

We had a good time writing the answer and it is relevant to the business website design process so here it is:

Both are important… A car can’t roll without wheels and it’s not safe without a bumper…

Photos and content are both going to personalize the experience so you aren’t just another competitor in the mix…

The most appealing things with content are if it reads to them like:

You know their problems
You can solve their problems
You care
You’re competitive &
Others have had a good experience with you

Thinking back to your content I think those bases are getting covered pretty well…

Photos, in our opinion, always have the potential of striking people with a good, subtle impression and feeling – an intuitive response if we’re lucky that says this is the company!

Great photos, angles and expressions will say UNIQUE, HUNGRY & CARES about their image being presented…
